Too little, too late? Shock as NY subway cleaned overnight for FIRST time in 115 years amid Covid-19 crisis New York City's iconic 24-hour subway has begun shutting down overnight for deep cleaning, the first deliberate closure in the system's history – a move triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic and a growing homeless presence on trains. Wednesday morning at 1am marked the first time the city's entire system was deliberately shut down for deep cleaning in its history. The system will close down nightly for four-hour disinfection of trains, stations, and equipment as long as coronavirus remains a “threat” to New York, which is still the epicenter of the pandemic. Nearly 14,000 people in the city have died with the virus as of Wednesday. ...

North Korea’s Kim makes ‘public appearance’ at FERTILIZER PLANT amid death rumors fueled by Trump’s ‘no comments’ North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has reportedly made his first public appearance in weeks, at a fertilizer factory north of Pyongyang. The radio report, however, has not entirely dispelled speculations about his death. A news broadcast by the North Korean state radio said that Kim cut the ribbon on a fertilizer plant in Sunchon, in South Phyongan Province, on Friday. He was accompanied by his sister Kim Yo-jong and several other officials. Kim Jong Un's reappearance led the 6am news on Korean Central Radio. Remdesivir approved for emergency use for Covid-19 treatment in US despite lackluster clinical trials The antiviral drug remdesivir has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for emergency use for Covid-19 treatment, despite mixed clinical results and lingering scientific questions. Remdesivir, made exclusively by Gilead, received FDA approval for emergency use on Friday after appearing to show clinical benefit in a single trial conducted by the National Institute for Allergy and Infections Disease (NIAID). Gilead has pledged to donate 1.5 million doses of the drug, and the stockpile currently on hand will be distributed to hospitals starting on Monday, according to Vice President Mike Pence. Alex Jones threatens to EAT GLOBALISTS (and neighbors) to keep children from starving amid Covid-19 pandemic Infowars founder Alex Jones is trending on social media and making waves with critics, including his ex-wife, thanks to a video rant where he says he’s ready to cannibalize his neighbors to survive the Covid-19 pandemic. “I’ll admit it. I will eat my neighbors. I’m not letting my kids die. I’m just going to be honest,” Jones said during a live broadcast of his show this week.  Jones continued to rant about having a “few years” worth of food stored up, but he doubled down on the promise to “eat” his neighbors should it come to that.  “I’m literally looking at my neighbors now, going, ‘Am I ready to hang them up and gut them and skin them and cho...

ANOTHER Russian minister diagnosed with Covid-19, after PM ends up in hospital Russia’s Minister of Construction and Housing, as well as his deputy, have been hospitalized with coronavirus. This comes a day after PM Mikhail Mishustin informed the president he was being admitted to hospital due to Covid-19. The ministry’s press service broke the news on Vladimir Yakushev’s test late on Friday. While he and his deputy, Dmitry Volkov, have been hospitalized, another of Yakushev’s deputies, Nikita Stasishin, has stepped up as acting minister. “I’ll be treated at one of the city’s clinics, in the care of medics. I’ll be keeping in close touch,” the minister said. Yakushev is the second of Russia’s top officials to get the coronavirus. Late on Thursday, Pri...

‘Tesla stock price is too high’: Elon Musk sends shares into freefall with deluge of tweets Elon Musk has stirred up a new Twitter controversy by claiming that the shares of his electric car company were priced “too high.” The remark sent Tesla stock downhill and summoned a horde of angry shareholders into Musk’s feed. The billionaire unleashed a series of perplexing tweets on Friday, vowing to sell “almost all physical possessions” and to “own no house.” He also apparently took yet another jab at the anti-coronavirus measures he’s previously spoken out against, tweeting “Now give people back their FREEDOM,” as well as posting lyrics from The Star Spangled Banner. The strongest reaction, though, was provoked by another of Musk’s posts, in which he sug...

Ireland extends coronavirus lockdown to May 18 as PM gives first details for easing restrictions The Irish government on Friday announced a further extension to the country’s lockdown measures, with Prime Minister Leo Varadkar saying they would remain in place until May 18; then first steps to ease restrictions will be made. Varadkar said the Irish economy would reopen in five stages, with each successive easing dependent on the level of coronavirus infections being kept under control. The current travel limit for personal exercise will be extended from two to five kilometers from Tuesday, while people aged over 70 – who have been advised since late March by government health officials to ‘cocoon’ at home – may leave their homes for a walk or drive. Businesses forced to close un...

Bezos ordered to testify in Congress, as Amazon accused of 'possibly criminally false' statements on business practices Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has been ordered to testify before Congress by the House Judiciary Committee, which has accused the corporation of lying about its private labeling practices to cover up possible antitrust violations. In a letter the committee sent to Bezos on Friday, the e-commerce behemoth is accused of making "misleading, and possibly criminally false or perjurious statements" in previous testimony before the judiciary. Citing Amazon's sworn testimony that it "does not use any seller data to compete with [third-party merchants]," the committee contrasted those claims with a recent Wall Street Journal investigation that, havin...

Trudeau bans ‘military-grade’ guns in Canada following largest mass shooting in country's history Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has announced that his government will be banning assault-style weapons, in response to last week's Nova Scotia rampage that saw 22 killed. The disturbing April 18-19 attack saw a 51-year-old denturist go on a wild killing spree, in which he shot his victims with two semi-automatic rifles and pistols, and also torched homes – to be later killed in a confrontation with police. Canadian police said it wasn't immediately clear why the suspect, identified as Gabriel Wortman, went on his 13-hour rampage, while reports have tied his violent breakdown to a property dispute and to alcohol abuse during the lockdown. Notably, the guns fou...
