British TV presenter slammed for ‘erasing apartheid history’ to smear Jeremy Corbyn as ‘racist’ Channel 4 presenter Rachel Riley is under fire after posting a photo of herself in a T-shirt featuring a doctored image of Jeremy Corbyn with his anti-apartheid message erased and replaced by one branding him a “racist.” Riley, a well-known and consistent critic of Corbyn in relation to claims of an anti-semitism “crisis” within UK Labour, posted the controversial image on Twitter on Wednesday night. The photo shows Corbyn being arrested whilst protesting against South African apartheid in 1984. Imagine having the confidence to smear Jeremy Corbyn as a racist, while simultaneously erasing apartheid history for your own twisted agenda. Rachel ...

US ‘ready to work’ with new Lebanese govt – President Aoun The United States is ready to work with a new Lebanese government that responds to the needs of its people, Lebanese President Michael Aoun tweeted on Thursday, citing President Donald Trump’s cable to him. Lebanon is mired in a deep political crisis amid nationwide protests that prompted PM Saad Hariri to resign on October 29. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has urged Lebanon’s leaders to form a new government capable of enacting reforms and fighting corruption. Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday scheduled a session of parliament next week to discuss draft legislation on banking secrecy and returning stolen state funds. Protests fuelled in part by anger over corruption forced parliament to postpone on Tu...

UN nuclear watchdog calls on Iran to explain origin of uranium traces at undeclared site The UN nuclear watchdog and Iran will discuss the discovery of uranium traces at an undeclared site in Tehran next week, the agency’s acting chief said on Thursday. Iran had not provided any more information about the origin of the particles,  according to the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA found the uranium traces at the site that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu drew attention to in a speech last year, calling it a “secret atomic warehouse,” Reuters reported in September. Tehran has said the site is a carpet-cleaning facility. Two weeks ago the IAEA confirmed to member states that environmental samples taken at the site had shown traces of natural uranium that was processed by...

‘Carbon neutral’ rock? Coldplay say band won’t tour until they can ensure concerts are ‘environmentally sustainable’ Coldplay have put the brakes on plans to tour their new album, apparently over fears that their concerts might hasten a climate crisis. The group’s frontman has said he wants their performances to be eco-friendly. “We’re taking time over the next year or two, to work out how our tour can not only be sustainable [but] how can it be actively beneficial,” lead singer Chris Martin told the BBC on Thursday. He said that overcoming the environmental impact of air travel would prove difficult, but that the group hopes to organize a “largely solar-powered” tour that is free from “single-use plastic.” Also on rt.com...
