Police say the suspect is on the run. Police responded to a shooting at Saugus High School, around 40 miles north of Los Angeles, early Thursday morning. Cuban president travels to town near US military base at Guantanamo Bay Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel visited the town at the gates of the American naval base at Guantanamo Bay on Thursday and said President Donald Trump’s hardening of the US embargo would fail to force concessions from his government. “The Yankees keep squeezing but we keep resisting,” AP quoted the Cuban leader as saying. Diaz-Canel was making his first trip to Caimanera, the closest point in Cuba to the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay. He began his visit to the town of about 10,000 people with a visit to a newly renovated 3D movie hall. Syria begins deploying troops in northeast along Turkish border – Damascus Syrian state media is reporting that government forces have started deploying in areas close to the Turkish border in the northeast. Troops are deploying between the towns of Jawadiyeh and Malkiyeh, also known as Derik, according to SANA. The deployment began on Thursday and Syrian border guards will be positioned at six points near to the border, state TV reported. The deployment is part of a deal reached between Russia and Turkey last month along much of the northeastern border that seeks to ensure Kurdish fighters leave the area, AP said. Moldova MPs vote to back new technocrat-led govt Moldova’s parliament has voted to back a new, technocratic government led by a former finance minister. Over 60 of 101 deputies voted in favor of Prime Minister Ion Chicu’s cabinet, two days after the collapse of the short-lived administration headed by pro-Western Maia Sandu, AP said. Six of 11 ministers in the new government, including Chicu, are former advisers to President Igor Dodon. Chicu received support from Dodon’s former party, the Socialists, whose dispute with Sandu over judicial reforms led to her government’s fall.
